Once there was a severe drought in Medina. The land dried up, the crops withered, and the people began to yearn for water. The people came to the Prophet (Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him) with great anxiety and said:
“O Messenger of Allah! Pray for rain, our children are starving, our animals are dying.”
The Messenger of Allah (Peace and Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him) raised his hands during his Friday sermon and prayed for rain.
The Companions (May Allah Be Pleased With Him) narrated that they saw that before the prayer was over, there was not a cloud in the sky, and suddenly black clouds came rushing in from afar. In the blink of an eye, it started raining as if the gates of heaven had opened.
It rained for a whole week. The next Friday, the people came again and said:
“O Messenger of Allah! Stop the rain, the crops are drowning, the roads are blocked.”
The Prophet (Peace And Blessings of Allah Be Upon Him) smiled and said:
“O Allah! It rained around us, not on us.”
The narrator says that we saw with our own eyes: the rain moved away from the streets of Medina and began to fall on the surrounding mountains and fields, and Medina became clear.
Seeing this scene, tears came out of the eyes of the companions, wondering what kind of Prophet is this, whose prayer even the clouds immediately obey.
